Principal's Message

JillWnuk.jpg“Be a force of nature! At Two Rivers Magnet Middle School we have a community where we partner with parents to help all of our students succeed. We seek to continually involve our families as we work to weave our environmental science and technology themes throughout the child's day. Through this, we can truly get to know our students and families as we all work to learn about and improve the environment. We realize that only with school and families working together we can find success.” Jill Wnuk, Principal

Two Rivers Middle School is one of CREC's established magnet schools, and we are in our sixteenth year of operation, educating students from over 30 towns. Our continued dedication to our theme of environmental science and technology may be well known, but that does not stop us from seeking out the latest technologies, curriculum and instructional strategies.

Two Rivers Magnet Middle School uses multiple partnerships to ensure that our students are receiving cutting edge instruction. Not only do we partner with the Connecticut Science Center, we also pilot their lessons and demonstrations, offering suggestions to make them better for students. We also partner with UConn School of Engineering, and their graduate students work directly with our students on their campus and ours.

We believe that middle school students learn by doing, and we give them multiple opportunities to do just that. Whether it's students tackling engineering tasks or collecting water samples from our pond, our students are engaged. From composting in the cafeteria to raising and releasing Monarch butterflies, the students get the chance to apply their learning to real life situations; making it real for students is what allows their creativity to shine.

Named a "Magnet School of Excellence" by Magnet Schools of America and honored as a 2016 Department of Education Green Ribbon School, Two Rivers promotes success at all levels. Our athletes routinely place first in our conference cross country, boys & girls soccer, boys & girls basketball, track & field, baseball and softball. Whether it's on the field or in the classroom, Two Rivers students know how to succeed.

We invite you to come and tour our school, see who we are, and learn about our success stories. We know success for students comes from the combined work of home, community and school, and we would like you to be a part of that equation.
