Principal's Message

Jill Wnuk

Be prepared for the future or work in the world! At CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School we have a community where we partner with parents to help all of our students succeed. We seek to continually involve our families as we work to weave computer science and engineering themes throughout the child's day. Through this, we can truly get to know our students and families as we all work to understand the role engineering has in everything we do. We realize that only with school and families working together we can find success.” Jill Wnuk, Principal

The Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School is a CREC magnet school that was formerly known as Two Rivers Magnet Middle School. As we shift to our new theme we are confident that our values to educate the whole child will remain the same. As we partner with the CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering High School in Enfield, we now have the ability to guarantee 7 years of excellent education and opportunities for all students. We continually seek out and apply the latest technology, curriculum and instructional strategies. Education is constantly evolving, and we pride ourselves for being on the cutting edge.

Our school uses multiple partnerships to ensure that our students are receiving the best instruction. We are the only middle school in Connecticut to be named an Amazon Future Engineers school, and this partnership gives us access to new curriculum focused on computer science. We have also formed partnerships with the UCONN School of Engineering who is assisting us in developing a 6 through 12 scope and sequence to prepare our students to do well in college. When our students head off to CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering High School in Enfield, they will work with Asnuntuck Community College professors to continue this engineering track.

We believe that middle school students learn by doing, and we give them multiple opportunities to do just that. Whether it's students tackling engineering tasks or coding for video games, our students are engaged. From solving real world engineering problems to building their own technology, the students get the chance to apply their learning to real-life situations; making it real for students is what allows their creativity to shine.

Our school promotes success at all levels. Our athletes routinely place high in our conference's cross country, boys & girls soccer, boys & girls basketball, track & field, baseball and softball sports. Whether it's on the field or in the classroom, our students know how to succeed. We offer multiple opportunities for after school programing as well under the 21st Century grant, where students will receive snacks, homework help, extended learning activities and fun!

We invite you to come and tour our school, see who we are, and learn about our success stories. We know success for students comes from the combined work of home, school and community, and we would like you to be a part of that equation.
